Transforming Lives: Our Journey with the Nelson Mandela 67 Minute Project

At First Consulting Alliance (FCA), we believe in the power of collective action to create positive change. On July 18, 2024, we put this belief into practice by participating in the Nelson Mandela 67 Minute project, honoring the legacy of South Africa's iconic leader.

Our team joined forces with the Khanyisa Trust, a Christian outreach organization in Edenvale that serves over 1,500 meals monthly to those in need. This collaboration aligns perfectly with UN Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger, and reflects our commitment to addressing pressing social issues in our community.

The Day in Numbers:

  • 9 employee volunteers

  • 106 meals served

  • 3 hours of service

  • 2 main sittings, with a potential third

Our volunteers arrived early at the Edenvale Methodist Church campus, eager to make a difference. Nigel, our event organiser, shared, "The energy was palpable. We all felt a sense of purpose knowing we were continuing Mandela's legacy of service."

The team's tasks included:

  1. Setting up the dining area

  2. Serving meals during two sittings

  3. Cleaning and resetting between sittings

  4. Assisting with a potential third sitting

  5. Conducting final cleanup

Beyond the immediate impact of providing meals, this experience offered valuable insights into the challenges faced by vulnerable populations in our area. The Khanyisa Trust's holistic approach, combining nutritional support with spiritual guidance, demonstrates a comprehensive model of community care that resonates deeply with our business values.

A meal recipient, told us, "It's not just about the food. The kindness and dignity we receive here make all the difference."

While we're proud of our contribution, we recognize that addressing food insecurity requires ongoing effort. We're committed to supporting the Khanyisa Trust and similar organizations long-term, and we're exploring ways to expand our impact.
